The New NP Residency Q&A: What If I Can’t Relocate?

Application season for ThriveAP’s new residency-like program for nurse practitioners is off to a strong start. We can’t wait to continue to get to know nurse practitioners and soon-to-be NPs from across the country enthusiastic about professional development and helping out underserved communities. ThriveAP+ truly is the service-learning adventure of a lifetime for NPs willing to embrace the experience to its fullest. 

The vision of the experience for nurse practitioners participating in ThriveAP+ is that those able to do so, will relocate to or near a medically underserved area for the duration of the 12-month program. This allows NPs to become part of the community, making a greater difference in the lives of patients and fostering relationships with NP, PA, and MD mentors in the program. The adventure of relocating to an area you might not have otherwise considered will stick with you for a lifetime leading to unique professional and personal experiences. But, what if you absolutely cannot relocate?

We understand that many nurse practitioners have commitments and considerations such as children or the career of a significant other that might prevent them from relocating for the ThriveAP+ experience. And, we don’t want these NPs to miss out on this new service-learning opportunity. So, if you are a nurse practitioner who thinks the ThriveAP+ experience could help facilitate your transition from education to practice, you are welcome to apply. 

We are working on finalizing ThriveAP+ sites nationwide for the Fall 2016-2017 class. If you cannot relocate but plan to apply to ThriveAP+, give us a heads up by emailing info@thriveap.com and we will work to secure a site within commuting distance in your desired setting and specialty. Your location and specialty determine the likelihood of securing a site that fits your needs. The more flexible you can be, the better your chances of placement in a ThriveAP+ site.
