I am so excited for the rest of this week. Tomorrow, our newest ThriveAP+ cohort will converge at ThriveAP headquarters in Nashville, TN for two days featuring a lot continuing education and, yes, a little bit of fun. On the agenda for the rest of the week is ECG interpretation taught by an electrophysiology NP, suturing skills lecture and practice, training in minor office procedures with hands-on practice, orthopedic X-ray interpretation and much, much more!

While we’ve got an A+ curriculum lined up for this ThriveAP+ kickoff, I’m most excited about connecting with participating nurse practitioners in-person. These NPs have decided to build a solid foundation for the rest of their careers by participating in this residency-like program for new grads. They have matched with clinics across the country that are willing to provide support and mentorship to NPs while also participating in weekly learning oportunities. Over dinner, bowling (of course!), and skills sessions we will have time to get to know each other as we embark on this year of practice + learning together.

As an experienced NP, I love meeting new graduates and helping them get established in their new role. I vividly recall the challenges and frustrations I faced at work right out of my nurse practitioner program and have always felt the need for a more supported transition from education to practice. This is what led me us at ThriveAP to start the ThriveAP+ program nearly two years ago.

If you aren’t familiar with ThriveAP+, you can think of the program somewhat like a residency for nurse practitioners and physician assistants. As NPs and PAs, we typically graduate from two year graduate level programs. In the workplace setting, however, we are often expected to take on almost the same workload as physicians. As a new graduate this is challenging and unrealistic without a support structure in place. ThriveAP+ is that support.

The application for 2018 ThriveAP+ cohorts is now open! If you have graduated from your NP program, or plan to graduate in 2018, you can download an ThriveAP+ info packet here. If you still have questions or would like to learn more about the program, we are also hosting a live online information session on Wednesday, September 27th at Noon CST. During the webinar, we will share more about how ThriveAP+ works and give you the chance to ask any questions you have about the experience or application process. Reserve your spot in the online session by registering here.

Can’t attend the info session? We’re happy to help! You can always email info@thriveap.com with questions or for more information about ThriveAP+. We hope to have you attend in-person on the 27th!
