Cory Edgar
Director of Education
Dr. Cory Edgar is a clinically practicing hematology/oncology PA with a passion for APP
education and mentorship. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of
Florida, a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from the University of Texas
Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center, and a Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) in
Medical Education from the University of Lynchburg.
Cory has practiced clinically in the field of malignant hematology, blood and marrow
transplant, and cancer survivorship since graduating from PA school. He has previously
served as Lead APP within the AdventHealth Cancer Institute. He has served in
various academic appointments in PA education since 2015, ultimately rising to the level
of associate professor and academic director of the AdventHealth University PA
Program. In this role, he led all aspects of the program’s curriculum – including
development, maintenance, assessment, and delivery. He has a passion for
incorporating educational best practices to ensure learner engagement through various
active learning modalities.
His research interests include simulation-based learning in PA education,
interprofessional education, APP utilization in oncology, cancer survivorship, and
hematologic malignancies. Cory is a regular speaker on the above topics at national
and regional conferences. He serves as the oncology department editor for the Journal
of the American Academy of PAs, on the board of directors of his specialty organization,
and on various committees related to APP education and research. Cory joined the
ThriveAP team as the Director of Education in 2024 to continue supporting the next
generation of APPs.
